Character creation guidelines.
Ability scores: Use either point buy or standard array (PHB, page 13).
HP: At first level, roll for HP as normally, and then add an extra 10 HP. This extra HP is a one-time bonus to help make level 1 characters less squishy.
Character sources: You may use the following sources for character creation and leveling up:
Player's Handbook
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Elemental Evil Players' Companion
Volo's Guide to Monsters
Xanathar's Guide to Everything
Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes
The Tortle Package and One Grung Above
Backgrounds and other character building options in the officially published WotC adventure modules (e.g. Curse of Strahd, Tomb of Annihilation)
No other sources are allowed.
Bonus feat: During character creation, you may choose one feat to give your character flavor or a particular combat specialty. These feats are strictly limited to the following:
Any racial feat from Xanathar's Guide (only if your PC belongs to that race)
Athlete
Actor
Charger
Defensive Duelist
Dungeon Delver
Durable
Grappler
Healer
Inspiring Leader
Keen Mind
Linguist
Observant
Resilient
Savage Attacker
Skilled
Skulker
Tavern Brawler
Tough
These limitations apply only to the bonus feats given during character creation. Variant human feats, and feats gained from leveling up, can be chosen normally.
As always, no evil characters.
