Session 16: "Under the Lamia's Paw."

(December 2) The party, engrossed in looting the magical items within the Aanja Subscribers warehouse, don't realize that they've been surrounded. The warehouse is in the center of the city of Zanjamand, where the richest and most powerful of its citizens live, near the palace of the governor. It didn't take long for people to notice that something was wrong in the Aanja warehouse, and for the guards to swoop in on the intruders. The party is captured and put in the dungeons beneath the governor's palace. Dara and Vaelin are brought before the governor, who is a lamia by the name of Jera. She reclines on a luxurious carpet in a vast colonnaded hall in the center of the palace. "You've made a powerful enemy. I would be rewarded if I were to present Trinilane with those who have thwarted his plans and looted his goods." She implies that the party can only escape if they do a significant service for her. Vaelin stands before Jera and boasts that the rak...

Session 15: "In Zanjamand."

(November 18) The party returns to Rajgan to report to Lord Gimgem on their mission to capture or kill Gargax and his renegade wyvern riders. Gargax has escaped them, as has much of his gang, but the loyal wyvern riders from the Winged College will be patrolling to find them, and their base in the Stormcloud will dissolve now that the silver dragon Galomere has been slain. Gimgem gives them a new mission: seek out the construct known as the Starling, and capture or destroy it if possible. He also tells them to find and capture the rogue halfling named Periwinkle Carn, who had been a member of the Graz'zt cult in Asherhet ( session 4 ), and had acted as the go-between for the Gray King in transferring the oblexes to their recipients on the surface. He wants Carn taken alive if possible for questioning. The Starling cannot be interrogated with magic, and can be destroyed if necessary. Lord Gimgem stresses that the party must be inconspicuous as they infiltrate the black market ...

Session 14: "Into the Storm Dragon's Den; or, The Ruff Raiders' Revenge."

(November 11) Lord Gimgem, head of the Rajgani Swords, has invited the party to stay in the VIP guest quarters within the Valorium, the main military citadel and training grounds in Rajgan. Each member of the party has their own room and access to the councils of Gimgem and other high-ranking officials within the Empire. After the dockside showdown with Sashi and his gang, Dara settles into her new quarters to meditate. The specter that had once been the warlock Ignominy still accompanies her; ordinarily a specter Dara has summoned will dissipate during Dara's rest. Ignominy, however, seems to grow stronger, solidifying as Dara's link to her dissolves. Ignominy seems to knit together the broken remains of her body around her spirit, straightening crushed limbs, her hair turning a white so blinding it almost appears black. In a whisper that carries with it the sound of raven caws, Ignominy warns Dara, "There is no escape for us, sister. The Mother of Sorrows always cl...

Session 13: "The Legend of Carl's Gold."

(November 4, 2018) Via a note sent in the hand of the ex-gladiator Gora, the party lures the bandit chief Sashi to an ambush at an abandoned dockyard in Rajgan's riverside district. Sashi brings his second-in-command Ignominy, as well as various members of his gang, but the adventurers are supported by guards from the Rajgan Swords and some of the party's new lycanthrope friends. Lan pilots the airship to provide air support, with Monkey ready at the forward cannon. Ward knew Sashi during her circus days, when Sashi was a fellow sword performer who went by the moniker "The Fabulous Carl." Similarly, when the party helped free Ignominy from prison to earn their place in Sashi's gang, Dara recognized her as a fellow warlock, possibly even operating on behalf of the same patron. Battle begins immediately. Dara hexes Ignominy and eldritch-blasts her. Ward taunts Sashi with vicious mockery. Sashi takes cover on the wreck of a ship abandoned at the dock, and the r...

Session 12: "Showdown in Moontown."

(October 21) At the Roving Eye tavern, Ward heads upstairs to the party's rooms to rest. She walks into an ambush. A tall, burly, and rather hairy human man seizes her from behind and clamps a hand over her mouth, while a halfling girl—perhaps 12 years old—menaces her with a dagger. Ward's efforts to break free are useless, and she is intimidated by the dagger-wielding street urchin, who demands to know whether Ward and her crew work for the bandit Sashi, and what they've been doing for him. Ward and her two ambushers quickly realize that they're all on the same side, united in working against Sashi, and the man releases her. Ward unties Bargin, who had been bound and gagged in the corner. The halfling girl introduces herself as Monkey, and the human man as Bear. (Bear rolls his eyes at these nicknames but says nothing.) Monkey says they come from a hidden part of the city called Moontown, and that they're trying to find out what has transpired between Sashi and...

Session 11: "The Fabulous Carl Strikes Again."

(September 30) During the party's departure from Gronk'rk and the lair of their new ally Snargle, the newly minted diplomat Bargin receives a gift of a old, out-of-tune lute from her mentor's hands. Over the ensuing two nights of their flight toward Rajgan, Bargin practices the lute and sings off-key from her perch in the crow's nest. She also practices the light crossbow, while the rest of the adventurers practice with their stash of muskets and pistols. At a distance of  about two hours' flight from the capital city, the party is approached by two wyverns and their humanoid companions, flying the white banners that Sunrise (an experienced airship captain) recognizes as signal flags expressing peaceful intent. The two wyverns land and their companions dismount, dressed in the sky blue and gold uniforms of the Winged College, Rajgan's aerial defense force. They are Sergeant Daar Vangdorresh, a bluff and hearty green dragonborn woman who rides the powerful bl...

Session 10: "It Becomes a Bag of That Size."

(September 23) The party decides to escape the duergar city rather than risk pilfering the powerful magical amulet from Gralkhar Fellgren, the Gray King. The paladin Vaelin can now summon a steed, so after extensive discussion and debate, touching on such topics as anaerobic decay and what happens when you turn a bag of holding inside out, his horse Jericho II is butchered and its meat stuffed into a bag of holding. The adventurers rope themselves together using Dara's climbing kit and venture out on the drow's secret escape route along the outside of the mighty spire. Treacherous hand- and footholds cause Ward to slip, but the precautionary rope keeps her safe, and the group continues upward to the tunnels used by drow spies and strike forces to infiltrate Darjheim Cavern. The house captain Nyrul O'rd has given them detailed instructions on how to return to the surface using a side branch of the tunnel system. They meet up with the dwarf scouts they had sent on ahead t...
